Rural Retreat for an Artist

Taking our cues from rural building vernacular, this simple pavillion project, located in a spectactular rural location West of Auckland, was completed in the final months of 2012. Sited into the side of a hill it was built as an artist’s sanctuary, but it’s equally a standalone studio with its living room, bedroom, kitchen, bathroom and garage.

It’s stunning position captures the beauty of surrounding farmland, so it was important for it to open up to this to allow the occupants to engage with the calming world outside.
